What is Family Medicine?
These physicians are qualified to treat most ailments and healthcare for a wide variety of people from newborns to seniors. They particularly take care of the patient within the context of their community, beliefs, relationships, and values. There are four concentrations within family medicine and are the following:
pediatrics
adolescent medicine
adult medicine
geriatrics
What's the difference between Family Medicine and Internal Medicine?
Internal medicine doctors, Internists, work mostly with adults where they focus on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illness and disease. In comparing Family Medicine, they treat all ages as mentioned before and they often care of patient throughout their whole life and often, multiple family generations.
What's the difference between Family Medicine and Primary Care?
Family Medicine is within umbrella of Primary Care. Family medicine includes a physician that thoroughly knows the patient's family history, comprehensive care, preventative medicine, and more. Primary care, on the other hand, can be a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. Often times, primary care is in charge of basic medical care, urgent care and after hours appointment, and more.
