What is Rheumatology?
Rheumatology can be either an internist or pediatrician that underwent specialization for treating rheumatic diseases in an outpatient setting.
What are rheumatic diseases?
Rheumatic diseases are musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions that include the swelling, stiffness, pain within the joints, muscles, and bones.
Rheumatologists diagnose autoimmune conditions without using surgical methods to partake in. Some of the disease they treat are the following:
osteoarthritis
gout
rheumatoid arthritis
tendonitis & bursitis
lupus
chronic back pain
They usually diagnose their patient through carefully gathering family history, physical exam, lab tests, and imaging studies. Often rheumatologists treat these diseases through medication, referrals other specialists, occupational therapy, joint/tendon injections, and more.

Osteoarthritis is joint stiffness and pain usually in the hands, knees, neck, and lower back. This occurs due to were joint tissues break down over time and is common amongst older people.
Gout is inflammatory arthritis that causes pain and swelling in the big toe or limbs due to high levels of urate within a one-two week time interval.
Rheumatoid arthritis occurs in the immune system whereby it attacks its own joint tissues that causes pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Tendinitis & bursitis happens around the muscles and bones as a result in n inflammation or breakdown of soft tissues
